An Analysis of Rejections of Chinese Christians’ Asylum Applications—Professor Raffaella Di Marzio

Personal thoughts:
I ask for nothing but doing God's will. The dream for thousands of years is just to meet the Lord when He comes back. The path of believing in and loving God is not always smooth; when we meet setbacks and failures, don't lose our faith in God! Amen. Hope we pray for Chinese Christians and may God give them faith and strength.

In recent years, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has continued to escalate its persecution of Protestant and Catholic home churches, and listed The Church of Almighty God as a particular target for its oppression, carrying out widespread arrests and persecution. Many Christians have had no choice but to leave their homes behind and become itinerant, and some have even been forced to flee to democratic countries overseas to seek political asylum. Consequently, the outside world has gradually come to know the truth of the persecution they’ve suffered, causing great concern on the part of some international human rights experts, religious scholars, and professors; they have also made appeals on behalf of these Christians who have fled. However, the governments of some democratic countries have disregarded the truth of the CCP government’s persecution of Christians as well as international society’s condemnation of the CCP, rejecting Christians’ asylum applications with a variety of reasons. This has resulted in a very low acceptance rate of Chinese Christian asylum seekers in Europe. Some have received removal orders and some have even been sent back to China. Professor Raffaella Di Marzio, who is in charge of the Center for Studies on Freedom of Religion, Belief and Conscience in Italy, has researched and analyzed the issue of the rejection of persecuted Christians’ political asylum applications by some democratic governments.

Analysis of the CCP's Persecution of Religious Beliefs Under the Pretext of "Cult"

Recently in mainland China, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) government has completely banned online sales of the Bible. E-commerce platforms such as Taobao, JD.com, and Dangdang have already removed listings for the Bible and other Christian literature, and some retailers have even had their E-shops seized up. Just think of the events in recent years— the CCP has dispatched armed police to demolish, to tear down a number of crosses and churches, and some really beautiful and impressive churches have been demolished. This has been heartbreaking and painful for many believers; so many Christians have surrounded these churches in tears, only able to persist in praying to God. Numerous facts show that the CCP government's persecution of religious beliefs is becoming more and more serious and it has reached the point of insanity. It is widely known that the CCP government has persecuted religious beliefs for a long time; when it came to power in 1949, it defined Christianity and Catholicism as cults, openly suppressing and persecuting these religions. It defined the Bible as cult literature and confiscated and destroyed countless copies. In 1995, the CCP government then added many house churches to its list of cults, and among them the persecution of The Church of Almighty God has been particularly severe. It has even taken up the slogan: "Troops Won't Be Withdrawn Until the Ban Is Done." It has mobilized armed police and army troops to hunt down defenseless Christians. The CCP government openly oppresses religious beliefs, and many foreigners have expressed confusion. Why would the CCP government define Christianity and Catholicism as cults, and suppress and persecute them? Is this kind of wanton condemnation and oppression of religious groups in line with international law? What is the government's objective in doing this? In this program we will interview
Dr. Raffaella Di Marzio, director of the Center for Studies on Freedom of Religion, Belief and Conscience (LIREC) in Italy, who is also a professor, social activist, and psychologist.
Let's have a listen to Dr. Marzio's ideas and viewpoints.

European Parliament Concern Over Asylum for Persecuted Christians From The Church of Almighty God

China’s deteriorating freedom of religious belief has long been a focus of the international community, which has repeatedly condemned the Chinese Communist government. The suppression and persecution of religious belief by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has continued to escalate since Xi Jinping took power. On June 27, a conference entitled Freedom of Religion or Belief and The Right to Asylum: The Case of China was held at the European Parliament in Brussels. During the conference, it was reported that freedom of religious belief in China has reached its worst level since the Cultural Revolution. At least 1.5 million people—including Xinjiang Muslims, Tibetan Buddhists, Catholics, Protestants, and Christians from The Church of Almighty God (CAG)—have been arrested and sent to prison or re-education camps for no reason other than their faith. The conference also pointed out that the CCP’s systematic persecution suffered by The Church of Almighty God Christians has been especially severe. These Christians have been arbitrarily detained, tortured, and imprisoned; some have even died or been left disabled as a result of their mistreatment. Participants in the conference called on the international community to urge the Chinese Communist government to respect freedom of religious belief, stop persecuting people of faith, and take note of the issue of asylum for Christians from The Church of Almighty God.
